“You can achieve anything as long as you put your mind to it”
Sofie, what is your position at Halls Gap Lakeside?
Assistant manager is my name
How did you get a job at Halls Gap Lakeside?
In October 2014 Siebe and I had a very simple plan in mind “travelling Australia for 1 maybe 2 years”. Once we arrived in Perth, we bought a car, a tent, mattress and heaps of other camping gear! BUT everyone knows plans are there to be changed! We’d just left Perth, when we got a phone call from our friend and Manager at Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park, Michael, asking if we’d feel like working in the park for 3 months. 3 Months turned into 6. The cleaning backpackers became assistant-managers! So no more travelling, FOR NOW ;)
What was your first impression?
“Well, I definitely won’t mind hanging around here for 3 months!”

In Belgium, in the lovely and cosy town called “Ypres” or “Ieper”.

Stunning views and relaxing vibes
Your absolute favourite place in the Grampians
The Beehive Falls are the best. You get to see a calming stream of water flow down into an oasis of plants. And the best thing … it’s not well known as the go to for selfies.
What makes you smile?
I love stupid but funny jokes and comments, so if you see me walking around with a stupid grin on my face it’s because I’m reliving them! Also, I love feeling the sun on my face on a cold day!
What is your favourite treat?
A massage !

‘She believed she could, so she did’
When you were a child what did you want to be when you grew up?
A jeweller like my parents, a cook, a teacher…
What will you be when you grow up?
How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Hardworking, friendly, smiling, honest and trustworthy
How would you describe working at Halls Gap Lakeside?
Working at Halls Gap Lakeside is a blessing! The amount of experience I’ve collected is amazing. What I’m learning now are things that you will never be taught in school and that is probably what I need!
What languages do you speak?
Flemish/Dutch, English and French. Oh yes, also Guten tag and Por Favor!
If you were to get some time off, what would you like to do?
If I would have enough time, I’d go somewhere I’ve never been. On my days off I like to fluff around in my veggie garden or spend some time with friends.
The old cliché, what is your favourite dinner?
Even though my wallet wouldn’t agree I LOVE a beautiful lobster dish!
