For good reason this park is rated the no 1 caravan park in Halls Gap on Tripadvisor and Wikicamps. This is massive achievement after Josephina and Rohan McDonald (owners of the park) claim that the same park was run down to the ground and running at a loss when purchased in March 2012. With lots of hard work, sweat, serious reinvestment, tears and smiles, we are here today, as proud as punch!
The campground was established in 1975 after the build of Lake Bellfield. With its stunning surrounds of the Grampians National Park, its quiet location, the abundance of Australian Wildlife, the friendly and relaxing atmosphere and the availability of campfires this tourist park has been a popular holiday destination ever since.
When purchased in 2012 the place was run down and tired. Rohan, a real go getter and risk taker, with a passion for the outdoors, noticed this business for sale late 2011. After running a golf course for the last 17 years in a small town on the Great Ocean Road it was time for him to do something for himself. Josephina who met Rohan in 1998 as a Dutch backpacker who has a Social Worker background was less enthusiastic, it was terribly run down. Rohan kept saying to see through it.
With a severe amount of hard work, vision, a passion for people and serious investment, now 4 years later Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park was voted in the TOP 20 in Australia by the members of the Motorhome and Caravan magazine (Sept 14). More recently Edwina from Sunrise called Halls Gap Lakeside out as her favourite park in her top 5 caravan parks in Australia. Hotels Combined awarded Halls Gap Lakeside with a StellarStay reward, only awarded to the TOP 3% of accommodation providers in the WORLD! To top it all off TRIVAGO rated Halls Gap Lakeside in the top 10 accommodation houses based on customer satisfaction in the whole of Victoria (Dec ’15). Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park is rated the No 1 Halls Gap Caravan Park on Tripadvisor and Wikicamps.
A proud owner operated tourist park, where passion for what they do shines through every corner of the park. This place will not disappoint! Rohan and Josephina have two gorgeous children Keira and Paddy.
In December 2023, this business received tourism grant funding from the Australian Government via Austrade enabling them to upgrade accessible and family bathrooms and installing 50KW of solar panels.
